SLEEP DEEP

Immune Function and Sleep

  • Increased levels of Interleukin-1

    • Interleukin: any of a group of naturally occurring proteins that mediate communication between cells. Interleukins regulate cell growth, differentiation, and motility. They are particularly important in stimulating immune responses, such as inflammation.

    • The Interleukin-1 family is a group of 11 cytokines that plays a central role in the regulation of immune and inflammatory responses to infections or sterile insults.

    • Cytokines: are small proteins that are crucial in controlling the growth and activity of other immune system cells and blood cells. When released, they signal the immune system to do its job. Cytokines affect the growth of all blood cells and other cells that help the body’s immune and inflammation responses.

  • Increased TNF levels – Tumor Necrosis Factor, which is a multifunctional cytokine that plays important roles in diverse cellular events such as cell survival, proliferation, differentiation, and death. As a pro-inflammatory cytokine, TNF is secreted by inflammatory cells, which may be involved in inflammation-associated carcinogenesis.

  • When body metabolic activity is lower, all the repair and regeneration take place.

Your Body and Sleep

  • Immune system more easily clears pathogens and toxins
